Summer Series 5k

The Friends of Victoria Park are pleased to announce the Summer Series 5k runs.

A series of 4 evening 5k runs. Join just for 1 or for all 4.

The runs will take place at 7.00pm on:

Wednesday 12th June 2019
Wednesday 10th July 2019
Wednesday 7th August 2019 and
Wednesday 4th September 2019

The fast and slightly undulating course makes this event ideal for setting a new 5k PB – and it’s great too for beginners or those simply looking for a short evening run.

Every finisher will be awarded a medal.

Full details of the series and how to enter can be found at

Very Hungry Caterpillars

This week Butterfly Conservation celebrated the 50th Birthday of The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Eric Carle’s classic has introduced millions of children to the amazing life cycle of a butterfly.

Anyone familiar with the tale will know that the leading larva hatches on a Sunday and spends Monday to Friday eating fruit. On Saturday the caterpillar’s diet takes an interesting turn as it binges on junk food including cakes, cheese and salami.

Although there is a fictional element to this otherwise educational story, the eating habits of a caterpillar are probably more varied than you might imagine.

Notice

Under Item 6. this meeting will include the following proposals to amend to the constitution:

Paragraph 1 currently reads:

The group and its members will be called and known as the ‘Friends of Victoria Park’ (from here on the group will be referred to as the ‘Group’). The Group was formed on 5th March 2018

The management Committee suggest it is amended to:

The group and its members will be called and known as the ‘Friends of Victoria Park’ (from here on the group will be referred to as the ‘Group’). The Group was formed as a consultation group by Ashford Borough Council on 5th March 2018, and became an independent constituted group on 7th September 2018.

Paragraph 11 currently reads:

The Friends of Victoria Park shall be administered by a Management Committee of not less than seven and not more than eleven members elected at the Group’s Annual General Meeting. Committee Members must be at least 18 years old.

The management Committee propose it is changed to:

The Friends of Victoria Park shall be administered by a Management Committee of not less than seven and not more than eleven members elected at the Group’s Annual General Meeting or, when the number of Committee Members is below eleven, at any General Meeting. Committee Members must be at least 18 years old.

A vote on these changes will be taken by show of hands during the meeting. Anyone not able to attend the meeting may notify the secretary of their acceptance or objection to the proposed changes by contacting us.

Have a passion for Victoria Park?

SculptureWhy not get involved?
Friends of Victoria Park are looking for new committee members.

We are looking for people who would be able to commit to attending public meetings 4 times a year and additional committee meetings which are held every 1-2 months. These meetings are usually held in the evening.  We also organise various activities in the park throughout the year.
We are a friendly group of people and, whilst previous experience would be great, if you are interested and willing to learn, then we would welcome you on board. Please note that this is an unpaid voluntary role.

Unfortunately we can only recruit committee members who are over 18 years old but, if you are younger, then please contact us to see if we have other volunteering opportunities you may be able to help with.
