Celebrate Easter with an Egg!

The Kentish Stour Countryside Partnership invite you to decorate and display your egg

April 10th in Victoria Park

The egg display is part of the park’s Easter Term Celebrations.

To enter: bring your egg(s) to the Coffee Box, Victoria Park (near the fountain) from 4th – 9th April, between 10:00 and 16:00.

Decorating your Easter egg

The egg

We want to be kind to all birds so please use free-range 😊

Blowing the egg.

Removing the egg from its shell through small holes. The egg will be fragile

but lighter. There are lots of YouTube videos on how to do this!

Hard-boil the egg.

It makes handling easier, though they can still crack!

Place the eggs in room temperature water.
Bring to a boil then turn down to a low boil for 12 minutes.
Remove from stove and let cool before decorating.

Vegan option

Ceramic, mache or wooden eggs from Hobbycraft or other shops (click & collect) or
find a rock shaped like an egg and paint that!

Egg Cup (or similar)

To hold the egg as you decorate and as it dries, one end/side at a time.

Decorating Tools and Resources

Food dyes and white vinegar – if you want to dye a real egg. *
Paint – acrylic and/or watercolour.
Paint brushes (fine / medium). Cotton buds can be used too. Please use paper ones if poss.
Crayons or fine liners (don’t press too hard!).
PVA glue if you want to stick things on the surface, it should dry clear.
Elastic bands (wide) to help you draw straight lines on the curved surface of the egg

*Dying a whole egg – Mix one teaspoon of vinegar and 20 drops of food colouring (use more to
intensify colour) in one cup of hot water in a heatproof bowl, cup, or jar deep enough to let you
submerge an egg completely. Dip hardboiled eggs in dye for about 5 minutes. Use a slotted spoon or
tongs to add and remove eggs from dye.

Top Tips:

Lots of patience – 😊

Start with the dyes or background painting before you add other decorating elements.
Let each layer (paint/dye) dry before you add another, so you don’t smudge or leave
fingerprints.
If you are gluing things on, do a bit at a time and let it dry/stick before you do the
next bit.
